What’s Happening?
The Brickyard 400 left fans with much to discuss, not all for the right reasons. How did Eric Estepp make sense of this race on the Groovy Gauge Presented by Lectric eBikes? Here is his final verdict.
Groovy Gauge Score: 50%
- Eric gave a string of paradoxes to discuss this race at Indianapolis. The crowd was good, around 70,000 strong, but it looked empty at a venue with nearly 400,000 people. The drivers cared more about the Brickyard 400 than the road course race, but the racing itself wasn’t great because it was so hard to pass.
- The issues with the racing product are primarily down to Indianapolis as a race track. It’s a single-groove track where clean air is king, which does not mesh well with the Next-Gen car, even though the strategy was interesting to watch.
- There was also some strange controversy throughout the day. From the race being pushed from network TV to cable to strange officiating decisions, Eric felt this took away from the race itself.
Thanks again to Lectric eBikes, who will continue sponsoring the Groovy Gauge throughout the season. Tune in after the Olympic Break to see where Eric puts the Richmond race on the Groovy Gauge.
