What’s Happening?

The NASCAR circus heads to Dover Motor Speedway this weekend. It’s the only visit NASCAR will make to the track, and this is everything you need to know for another exciting weekend of racing.

  • The NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series will be on track this weekend. This is the second consecutive weekend both series will be on track together without the Truck Series. The Truck Series is off for the second weekend in a row.
  • The ARCA Menards Series is also on track this weekend for a combination race. Since the track is 1.0 miles long, drivers younger than 18 years old can compete, so, the ARCA Menards Series West will race alongside the main ARCA Menards Series.
  • Fans are excited for the stars of NASCAR to take on the “Monster Mile”. It is one of the most interesting tracks on the schedule, and it makes for a fun weekend.

Notable entrants include Patrick Emerling (No. 07), Daniel Dye (No. 10), David Starr (No. 14), Taylor Gray (No. 19), Corey Heim (No. 26), Matt DiBenedetto (No. 38), and Carson Kvapil (No. 88). The No. 66 MBM Racing entry does not have a driver yet.

*While not yet reflected on the entry list, Akinori Ogata announced that he will race in the No. 35 car for Joey Gase Motorsports.

Cup Series

37 Cup Series cars are entered for this weekend’s race at Dover. Jimmie Johnson (Legacy Motor Club No. 84) is the only open entry alongside other notable entries Kaz Grala (No. 15) and A.J. Allmendinger (No. 16). Erik Jones is on the entry list, but, Legacy Motor Club does have Corey Heim on standby in case Jones needs a relief driver according to Bob Pockrass.

What to Watch For This Weekend

ARCA Menards Series

Dover was a Toyota playground for ARCA one year ago. Toyota cars led 121 of 127 laps as Jake Finch took home the win in an ARCA West race. This was not a combination race in 2023, so, could the combination nature of the 2024 race change things?

Xfinity Series

The NASCAR Xfinity Series has 7 different winners in the last 7 races at Dover. It’s fairly evenly distributed between manufacturers as well with 2 for Toyota, 2 for Chevrolet, and 3 for Ford. The Toyotas are the ones to watch for this weekend, as Ryan Truex led 124 laps to win his first career Xfinity Series race one year ago.

Cup Series

The last 6 Cup Series races at Dover have produced 6 different winners. Three of those winners came from the Hendrick Motorsports stable, with Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, and Kyle Larson each taking home wins. Martin Truex Jr. has the most Dover wins of any full-time driver in the field with 4, and he is the defending winner of this race.

This article will be updated as entry lists come out and more information on the weekend is released.
