What’s Happening?

Just like any other career, you always have to start somewhere. Most of the time you can go on Indeed or Glassdoor and find what you’re looking for, but other times it’s not so simple. So if I wanted to work in NASCAR, how do I start?

NASCAR Job Searching

When it comes to getting a job in NASCAR, you first have to know where to look. It is surprisingly easier than you’d think. NASCAR themselves as well as many teams have ‘Career’ tabs on their websites to help people down those paths. These jobs can consist of location requirements and traveling requirements.

When working for the sanctioning body of NASCAR, you will find that they have part-time and full-time. The full-time positions currently listed are ‘Director, Commercial Ventures’ ‘Media Systems Engineer’ and Sr Coordinator, On-Air Talent Manager.’ These positions all align with NASCAR building their NASCAR Productions to create an all-NASCAR channel called ‘FAST.’

If Marketing and Media Aren’t For You, What Else Is Available?

If you’re looking for a more involved, at-track position, contacting the track a month or two prior to race day could get you in the door. During race weekends, there is massive amounts of planning and organization that go into a seamless weekend and experience at-track. With this planning and organization also comes temp positions for those local or willing to travel.

These jobs include parking crews, ticket booths, concierge services, food service, ushers, security and much more. While these are only temporary positions, it is a way in the door with NASCAR and NASCAR events. With a temp job, you could make some great contacts with those that are embedded in the NASCAR industry which could propel you inside the walls of the sanctioning body.

What About Working for a Race Team?

There are 17 teams in the Cup Series alone. Out of those 17 full-time teams, there are 36 guaranteed cars each race weekend. Each car team contains multiple positions within. From the pit crew, to road crew, car builders, and shop hands, the opportunities are endless. The path to those positions may start from cleaning shop floors, but it’s a way in the door.

If a Cup team isn’t an option, there is even more availability in the lower ranks of Xfinity and Trucks. They have an abundance of the same opportunities, just on a smaller scale, which could fuel growth or be the perfect fit for your desires.

All pathways may be different, but passion is the driving force when working in such a strenuous industry. It takes blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifice to help a team compete 36 weekends out of the year. Out of any sport, NASCAR has the most grueling schedule of them all, and only the strongest will survive.

Other Opportunities

One other opportunity would be working within content creation. The Daily Downforce is one of the best options for that. From the flexibility to the access that you gain, you’ll feel right inside the industry without being at track every weekend. The opportunities are unlimited within the NASCAR industry but taking the time to seek them out that is the challenge. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there because you never know where one single email will land you.
