What’s Happening?
This past weekend at the Chicago Street Race, NASCAR officially unveiled its ABB electric vehicle prototype, but NASCAR is not stopping there. Adam Stern reports that NASCAR is in “Advanced discussions” with Thrill One Sports and Entertainment about investing in Nitrocross, which has an EV Series called Group E. This comes after Dana White teased in June that NASCAR and Nitrocross were considering teaming up.
- In multiple instances, NASCAR made it clear that they do not intend to start an all-electric series anytime soon. Stern reports that if NASCAR invests in Nitrocross, it will not be a “NASCAR” branded series. However, NASCAR will “Play a role” in the series itself.
- NASCAR unveiled and demonstrated its EV prototype, announcing ABB as the sport’s “Official electrification partner.” This announcement comes amid a broader goal for NASCAR to have net-zero carbon emissions by 2035, but it’s unclear exactly how NASCAR will achieve this goal.
- Fans are very split on EVs and NASCAR. Some are interested to see how it will fit into NASCAR’s future, but others do not want NASCAR anywhere near EVs
