Paint schemes are one of the most important pieces of any NASCAR team’s or driver’s brand. Some paint schemes are used multiple times, and become iconic as Classic NASCAR paint schemes. Others are famous because they will NEVER be on the track again. John Rizzo takes a deep dive into paint schemes that will never return.

  • Some paint schemes have been outright banned from NASCAR due to banned advertisements. Tobacco sponsorship is now banned in the United States, meaning that branding from companies like Skoal and Winston is not allowed. Military paint schemes have also been less prevalent in recent years alongside Pepsico Companies. NASCAR also put a ban on political sponsorship.
  • Some schemes are just one-off paint schemes due to specific promotions. Movie cars are the most common of these, but, some schemes commemorate specific moments in time and anniversaries.
  • One of the most famous driver’s paint schemes to throw back to on Throwback Weekend is Dale Earnhardt. However, one race team will likely never throw it back to Dale Earnhardt. This goes back to 1995, and it features a member of NASCAR’s Royal Family.

Which paint scheme do you most wish could come back to NASCAR? Let John know in the comments, and be sure to subscribe for more great NASCAR content.
