Sources confirmed to The Daily Downforce that former NASCAR crew chief Ryan Pemberton has passed away. Boris Said was the first to announce the tragic news on his Instagram account late on Sunday night. The cause of death remains unconfirmed.

  • Pemberton was a NASCAR Cup Series crew chief for 16 seasons. He won two races, one in 2004 at Kansas with Joe Nemechek and a second at Michigan in 2009 with Brian Vickers. Most recently, Pemberton was the director of competition at JR Motorsports, a role he left in 2022.
  • Ryan was a part of a racing family. His older brother Robin was a crew chief before becoming NASCAR’s vice president of competition. Ryan’s other brother, Randy, was a broadcaster before tragically passing away in 2022.
  • Fans were surprised and saddened by the news. Many gave their condolences to the family in this difficult time.
