Clint Bowyer, a strong short-track racer during his career, said NASCAR's short track program needs some work.

What’s Happening?

Former NASCAR Cup Series driver and current FOX commentator Clint Bowyer was clearly better on short tracks during his career than on any other style venue. Superspeedways, road courses, cookie-cutter 1.5-mile tracks — Bowyer had the biggest smile when he was heading to a short track.

But that’s not how he felt coming out of the Richmond, Martinsville, and Bristol races the past three weekends. He didn’t say it on the live broadcast though.

Interestingly, some fans had a slight beef with Clint: Not with what he said, but when he said it.

Let’s take a look at the response from fans:

On Your Screen

White Lightning questioned the timing of Bowyer’s complaint on Reddit, which came in a Monday afternoon Tweet — but not when he had a camera on him with millions of NASCAR fans watching.

BenKlee and GMann007 took to Twitter and responded underneath Bowyer’s original Tweet (shown above).

The Reddit poster Frigginjensen actually seemed to side with NASCAR, asking for patience.

RedDemons99 said on Twitter that he had patience with the Next Gen car originally, but its wearing thin when it comes to the product.

TheOrangeFutbol didn’t directly go at Bowyer on Reddit, though it was in response to the former driver’s Tweet. He made some good points.

With the Next Gen Car in place, there will be some frustrations and tweaks, but as Bowyer said — whether you wish he’d said it on FOX or later — it is something NASCAR will need to remedy or it could lose more race fans.
