What’s Happening

After a long job search and numerous rumors about her future, Hailie Deegan has her the next step. In 2025, she will leave NASCAR to race for HMD Motorsports in the Indy NXT series.

• Indy NXT by Firestone is IndyCar’s top developmental series. Formerly known as Indy Lights, the series helps drivers acclimate to what some consider the fastest and most dangerous form of oval racing, similar to the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
• Hailie Deegan was one of NASCAR’s top developmental names for most of the early 2020s. However, following the Xfinity Series race at Nashville Superspeedway in June, Deegan and AM Racing parted ways, leaving her NASCAR and racing future up in the air.
• Following her release, there were many rumors about where Deegan would land in 2025, including the Haas Factory Team, Indy NXT, and several other open-wheel series. For some time, Deegan denied these rumors that she was heading for open-wheel racing in 2025.
• However, on Oct. 1, Deegan announced her first open-wheel race in the Formula Regional Americas Championship at Circuit of Americas the weekend of Oct. 31 to Nov. 3. Most thought that this would be a step towards Indy NXT, and it now appears that is the case.
• The first race of the 2025 Indy NXT season will be on Mar. 2 on the Streets of St. Petersburg. Deegan will race in the full 14-race season next year with HMD Motorsports. HMD Motorsports won the series drivers championship in both 2022 and 2023.

In a statement from IndyCar, Deegan said:

“I am excited about the opportunity and look forward to working with a proven program in HMD Motorsports. I have much to learn, but I am ready to go. The team brings a wealth of knowledge for me to pull from, and I look forward to soaking up as much of that as possible before my race debut next March in St. Petersburg.” — Hailie Deegan
