What’s Happening?

We finally have an update on the production of the next NASCAR console video game—well, sort of. On Tuesday evening, NASCAR posted a video in which iRacing’s Executive Vice President Steve Myers discusses the new game, but did he really say anything at all?

  • IRacing officially purchased the NASCAR console video game license from Motorsport Games in 2023. While not much was unveiled about the game, iRacing announced the game would be released in 2025. The current working title is NASCAR 25.
  • IRacing is best known for its work on racing simulators. It can trace its roots back to 1987 when David Kaemmer formed Papyrus Design Group, which developed iconic NASCAR racing simulations such as NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. Kaemmer eventually moved on to develop iRacing after Papyrus shut down.
  • It was later revealed that Monster Games would develop the game on the Unreal Engine. Monster Games developed the NASCAR Heat Series of games in the early 2000s and late 2010s, with their most famous game being NASCAR Dirt to Daytona, released in 2002.

What Did They Say?

Steve Myers primarily focused on those working on developing the game and their resumes. Particularly highlighting their backgrounds with Papyrus and Monster Games.

I think we have the group of people with Monster and Papyrus pedigrees that have shipped many NASCAR games, that know that these products are supposed, that know what our customers want from these products.

That’s it. That’s the entire clip. There is no greater context for the clip to exist in, at least not yet.

This isn’t entirely surprising, as a big game like this takes a long time to develop, and we are still over a year away from the game actually coming out. Frankly, there’s probably not much for iRacing to showcase except who’s working on the game. In the article below, we discuss that we will probably not see screenshots or a trailer until mid-to-late 2025.

It’s good to see that people from Papyrus and Monster Games are working on the game given their pedigrees. That’s great to see, and it gives fans optimism.

However, that doesn’t guarantee the game itself will be good. Remember how fans responded to NASCAR Heat Evolution?

Overall, there’s not much to take from this, and it will probably take a while before we get anything more concrete. Either way, there is a lot of excitement around this game.
