What’s Happening?
Yesterday, Joe Gibbs Racing announced the signing of Taylor Gray. However, Ty Gibbs’s Instagram Story prompted a deeper conversation about this shock announcement. So, what’s the big news about Ty Gibbs?
Joe Gibbs Racing Signs Another Driver for 2025
What’s Happening? Taylor Gray is taking the next step in his NASCAR career in 2025. Wednesday, Joe Gibbs Racing announced that…
Another Piece of The Puzzle
The announcement that Taylor Gray would drive the No. 54 next year for JGR’s Xfinity Series team in 2025 shocked many fans. Most pinned William Sawalich or Ryan Truex as the team’s next addition.
While the NASCAR world was still spinning on its head, Ty Gibbs made a rather interesting post on his Instagram shortly after the announcement.
Of course, this is pretty easy to dissect, but just for clarity, Racing America reached out to Joe Gibbs Racing, which confirmed that Ty Gibbs is the new owner of the No. 54.
So, what does Ty’s new role mean?
Ty Gibbs Racing?
Ty Gibbs is, of course, the grandson of Pro Football Hall of Fame Coach and NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs. Gibbs is the current driver of the No. 54 in the NASCAR Cup Series and a former Xfinity Series Champion driving the No. 54.
Of course, Ty’s new role does not mean he will take over JGR anytime soon, nor does it mean he will take over ownership of the developmental side of JGR.
Ty’s late father, Coy, and late uncle J.D. both held front-office roles at JGR after their racing careers didn’t turn out. Ty’s career has been relatively successful. But it was only a matter of time until Ty joined the business side of the family business.
In NASCAR, you have teams, but those teams can have smaller cars and part owners. Notable examples include Jeff Gordon’s co-ownership of Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48, which turned into a very successful venture for all parties.
A more recent example would be Mike Curb. Curb, a longtime record executive, is a co-owner of ThorSport’s No. 98 truck. While the truck races the Thorsport banner, Curb is still viewed as a listed owner.
While Ty isn’t running JGR just yet, this is a step in that direction. Not only is he the next generation of Gibbs on track, but he is also the third generation of Gibbs in the office.
