What’s Happening?

With the season coming to an end, the rumor mill has been awfully quiet about Hemric’s future. But, a new rumor suggests that Hemric could step down to the Truck Series in 2025. Here are the details.

Hemric’s Tough Spot Entering 2025

Daniel Hemric, driver of the No. 31 car for Kaulig Racing, has just two races left with his current team. The team has already signed Ty Dillon to replace him after this season. With almost no word of where Hemric will fall, the options for the former Xfinity Series Champion are shrinking.

Thursday afternoon, nascarrumornostalgia posted on Instagram that Hemric is the most recent driver rumored for McAnally–Hilgemann Racing’s flagship No. 19 Truck.

This rumor account has a decent track record. This week, they posted about Bootie Barker leaving No. 23 prior to the official announcement. However, they missed a rumor about Legacy MC firing John Hunter Nemechek at the season’s end. However, they did mention they posted the JHN rumor “in case it comes true.”

The post about Hemric further states that he could race part-time in a part-time Cup Series car owned by NASCAR, something that has been part of rumor talk this offseason. However, this may be the first time a rumor has tied Hemric to that car.

So, what factors could push Hemric down to the Truck Series, and what factors say this might not be true?

Champion to Truck?

Hemric’s resume would make this move quite a shock. In his NASCAR career, Hemric has won just one race. However, that race was his most important, as it won him the 2021 Xfinity Series Championship.

As a former Champion, Hemric has the resume to stay at least the Xfinity Series level, making a move to trucks quite a shock. Despite his struggles at the Cup Level, Hemric is a consistent talent that almost any Xfinity Series team would like to have.

As far as MHR is concerned, the 33-year-old veteran does not fit their historic mold of up-and-comers and young drivers. This year, they have already lost Christian Eckes and Daniel Dye to promotions with Kaulig Racing’s Xfinity Series program.

The team should consider many other young or fresh faces. These include part-time MHR driver and Hendrick prospect Corey Day, part-time MHR driver Jack Wood, and part-time MHR driver Vicente Salas.

While the move does not make sense on its surface level, some reasons suggest this could be a match for Hemric.

The Right Move, or The Only Move?

As far as his options go, they are winding down for Hemric. All four NASCAR Xfinity Series teams that Hemric raced seem to have filled their rosters for 2025. So, if he wants to go full-time, the No. 19 is not a bad choice in this limited market, as the team has shown year-to-year improvement.

Another major factor in this could be his sponsorship. Hemric, who has support from Cirkul, South Point Hotel and Casino, and Poppy Bank, is a fine choice for any team looking to fill their lineup. While Poppy Bank, who sponsored the majority of his 2021 championship season, has cut back on their support, he has consistently filled his sponsorship.

This sponsorship fits well for MHR, which already has support from NAPA. This could allow them to bring in a veteran like Hemric while having a sponsored ride for another young up-and-comer like those mentioned above. We’ve checked in with our sources in the garage area and they say that this is a likely route for Hemric.

While some may view this as a downgrade for Hemric, it seems like his best fit and would allow him to bring his veteran skill to a very competitive Truck Series team.
