What’s Happening?
If you’ve followed this page throughout the past week, you’ll know that we’ve been meticulously breaking down these little clips iRacing has been releasing about NASCAR 25. Frankly, they’ve been pretty light on specific details, but the fact that they keep coming out makes us and the fans wonder, what exactly is iRacing teasing?
- IRacing officially purchased the NASCAR console video game license from Motorsport Games in 2023. Since then, it has been revealed that Monster Games would help develop the game on the Unreal Engine. The game is set to release in the fall of 2025.
- IRacing is best known for its work on racing simulators, while Monster Games has worked on both NASCAR Heat Series, their most beloved title being NASCAR Dirt to Daytona. This is the first time both are working together on a NASCAR video game.
- These teasers come over a year before NASCAR 25 is set to come out. With such a long time before the game, what could these videos lead to?
What Could iRacing Be Teasing?
Thus far, three of these teasers have been released to the public: one with iRacing’s Executive Vice President, Steve Myers; a second with NASCAR’s vice president of Interactive and Emerging Platforms, Nick Rend; and iRacing’s Director of Development and Production, John Schneider. The last one, shown above, features iRacing’s Production Director, Matt Lewis.
Aside from Schneider teasing that iRacing is using assets from knowledge about racing physics and track scans, each video boiled down to the same topic. The developers of past beloved NASCAR games are working hard on the next NASCAR video game.
It’s an understandable sales tactic, and it’s a good one too. IRacing was born from Papyrus, which developed NR2003, which still has a passionate fanbase and modding community to this day. Monster Games worked on NASCAR Dirt to Daytona and the NASCAR Heat series.
But these videos all seem related, as if NASCAR or iRacing is about to release something bigger. It’s too early to see a trailer or screenshots of a game. Usually, things like that don’t come out until a few months before the game is set to release. As of right now, NASCAR 25 is still over a year away.
Maybe we could start seeing dev diaries or a mini-documentary discussing the next video game. While we probably won’t see much about gameplay, we might see some of what will come in the next game.
While there probably won’t be many specifics finalized, we may get an idea of the philosophy of the next game. How will iRacing work to balance the need for realistic and compelling gameplay without alienating the more casual and younger audience? How deep will Monster Games be able to make other game elements such as career mode and the like?
We might get our first basic, overarching answers. However, we probably won’t see anything concrete for a while, as we are still over a year away from the game coming out.
