What’s Happening?
Front Row Motorsports owner Bob Jenkins and General Manager Jerry Freeze announced on Wednesday that they plan on fielding a third, full-time Cup Series car starting in 2025. NASCAR’s official X page said that the car will be chartered. While no specifics were given on who FRM bought the charter from, multiple reports have indicated that FRM was interested in one of Stewart-Haas Racing’s four charters.
- Stewart-Haas Racing announced on Tuesday that it will shut down after the 2024 season, meaning its four charters are on the market. Combining that with FRM’s announcement and rumored interest, this all but confirms that FRM will purchase one of SHR’s four defunct Cup Series charters to field this third car.
- FRM fielded three cars in the early 2010s before downsizing to a two-car operation in 2014. Since then, they have fielded the No. 36 car as a part-time entry, most recently entering it in the 2024 Daytona 500 for Kaz Grala.
- Fans are not surprised at all by this announcement. Everyone anticipated that FRM would buy one of SHR’s four charters, and today’s announcement showcases that things could be moving in that direction.
