What’s Happening?

On Tuesday, Bud Denker, the President of Penske Corporation, gave his insight into the future of NASCAR at Iowa Speedway. He told the Des Moines Register that it is “likely” that the Cup Series will return to Iowa Speedway in 2025.

  • Iowa Speedway hosted its first every Cup Series race in June. The event was an overall success with a decent racing product and a sellout crowd. However, NASCAR was non-committal to returning to Iowa for the 2025 season, and multiple reports indicate that NASCAR hopes to add international venues to the 2025 schedule.
  • While Denker is not a NASCAR-specific executive, he works directly with Roger Penske, one of the most powerful people in American motorsports. If Denker believes something will happen, he’s as close to the decision-makers as anyone can be. On top of that, Iowa put its best foot forward with the 2024 weekend, so why not try again?
  • Fans would love to see Iowa return to the 2025 Cup Series schedule. Many felt the race was a big hit, and they would also love to see a race on a fully repaved track to see its full potential.
