It was a crazy month for NASCAR, while two teams sued NASCAR, and other’s faced massive penalties, the Silly Season rolled on. Here is everything you need to know from October 2024 NASCAR Silly Season.

JR Motorsports Signs Carson Kvapil – Oct. 1

After months of speculation, JR Motorsports officially announced its new driver of the No. 1 car. Former late model champion Carson Kvapil, who has had good part-time runs for the team this year, will pilot the car next season. This followed months of speculation involving his sponsorship, with Bass Pro Shops playing a major role in that in 2025.

23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports Agreed to Purchase New Charters Prior to Lawsuit – Oct. 2

A major storyline from October was, of course, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports’ antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR. However, the initial lawsuit revealed that 23XI had purchased a third charter from Stuart House Racing. Furthermore, we learned that both team’s new charters have yet to be approved by NASCAR, and the two teams have not asked for approval. This leaves the future of the rumored drivers, Zane Smith and Riley Herbst, up in the air.

Hailie Deegan Leaving NASCAR after 2024 – Oct. 14

After a tough start to the season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, AM Racing parted ways with Hailie Deegan. However, news remained quiet about Deegan’s future in NASCAR. On the morning of Oct. 14, Deegan revealed that she would take her talents to IndyNXT in 2025.

NASCAR Engineer Sold Setups to Opponent – Oct. 14

A seemingly lost storyline in a busy month was about a Joe Gibbs Racing employee who sold set-ups to a non-playoff team. Since then, there has been no news about who may have committed this act; however, there are rumors.

NASCAR Planning on Revoking Charters of 23XI and FRM – Oct. 16

Throughout October, there were many stories about the ongoing lawsuit between 23XI/FRM and NASCAR. One Silly Season story involves a response from NASCAR, which stated:

“The deadline for Plaintiffs to sign 2025 Charter Agreements expired weeks ago, and NASCAR has taken steps, consistent with its contractual obligations to other Charter Teams, to plan for a season with only 32 Charters.”

However, this is not for sure, as the two teams are pursuing a preliminary injunction that would allow them to have charters in 2025.

Frankie Muniz Going Full-Time in 2025 – Oct. 22

Former actor Frankie Muniz, after two years of part-time NASCAR work, got a full-time Truck Series ride with Reamue Brothers Racing in 2024. This year, Muniz continued racing, making his debut in both the Truck and Xfinity Series.

Chandler Smith Reveals Shocking News – Oct. 28

During the Homestead Miami playoff weekend, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Chandler Smith revealed that he has no idea what his future holds. He is struggling with sponsorship and has limited opportunities due to that.

In an interview with Fox Sports, Bob Pockrass, Smith said:

“I don’t have a ride next year, Bob [Pockrass]. I could be working for my dad’s construction business, and I could be hanging it up at the end of this year. So, with that being said, all craps will not be given at Martinsville.” — Chandler Smith

NASCAR Official Leaks Ryan Preece’s New Job – Oct. 30

On Oct. 30, a NASCAR official accidentally confirmed that Ryan Preece will race for RFK Racing in 2025 in an interview on SiriusXM NASCAR radio. This has been a long-time, all but confirmed rumor, and despite these comments, RFK has not confirmed anything yet.

John Hunter Nemechek OUT at Legacy MC?

In the last week of October, a NASCAR rumor mill account with decent credibility posted that they had heard a rumor that John Hunter Nemechek could be out at Legacy Motor Club following this season. Many fans turned to Cory Heim as the possible option for that open car. However, BrakeHard confirmed that his sources say this is not happening.

Who Purchased JGR’s Setups?

When the story about JGR’s leaked setups hit the market, many rumor mill accounts spread who they had heard the buyers were. All that was confirmed was that the team did not have a playoff car, but there is some interesting video evidence.

Spire Motorsports Part-Time Car in 2025?

A major expansion-related rumor mill story is that Spire Motorsports, which has had a fantastic silly season, is adding an open car for the 2025 season. This is not confirmed, but it would match the team’s positive trajectory.

NASCAR in Saudi Arabia?

Another story from the last week of October was about a new race track being built in Saudi Arabia. During a tour of the facility, NASCAR was featured on a list of potential series. However, a closer look clarified that they were not a confirmed series. NASCAR has not commented on this matter, but sources say they have explored this.
