What’s Happening?

Dover Motor Speedway will move to July for the 2025 Cup Series schedule. A renewal letter sent to ticket holders lists the dates July 18 to 20, a stark move from its past weekend.

  • This season, that race weekend was in Indianapolis. However, traditionally, the 20th weekend of the season was at New Hampshire, another Speedway Motorsports track. Dover has held only one race in July in the past, the track’s first race in 1969, won by Richard Petty.
  • Since losing its race second race date to Nashville Superspeedway in 2021, Dover has hosted its race the first weekend in May. The race, however, has maintained the 11th race of the season through that period.
  • This move could have come into play as rain has affected Dover multiple times since 2018. However, it is equally likely that the potential addition of a race in Mexico City may be the cause, as an international race is a high priority for NASCAR.
  • While the track has not confirmed the date, it matches up with a potential schedule leak from the NASCAR Latino X account. However, NASCAR says that this schedule is not accurate.
