On Friday, Bristol Motor Speedway announced that Dale Earnhardt Jr. will race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Food City 250 on September 15 at 7:30 PM. Earnhardt Jr. will feature sponsorship from Hellman’s Mayonnaise, and it will be his first race at Bristol since 2017. He will still broadcast the Cup Series Night Race at Bristol the following night, September 16.
You Need to Know:
- Ever since he retired from full-time competition, Earnhardt Jr. has entered into one Xfinity Series race per year. In those five races, he has three top-5 finishes with a best finish of fourth at Richmond in 2018 leading 96 laps.
- Earnhardt Jr. has one win in each series at Bristol, with both coming during the night race weekend in 2004. After winning the Cup Series race that weekend, he coined the famous term, “It’s Bristol baby!”
- Understandably, fans are excited to see Dale Earnahrdt Jr. back in a NASCAR capacity, even if it is the Xfinity Series. However, some were a bit thrown off by the title, thinking that he was running in the Cup race as well.
