What’s Happening?

Fan favorite second-generation driver Austin Green will finally get his chance to race full-time in the 2026 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series in Peterson Racing’s new No. 87.

  • Green is the son of NASCAR OAP Series veteran and 1994 Busch Series Champion David Green. This makes him the second generation of the Green family, alongside his father and his uncles, Jeff Green (the 2000 Busch Series Champion) and Mark Green.
  • The 24-year-old made his first NASCAR National Series start at Circuit of the Americas with Jordan Anderson Racing in 2024, finishing seventh. He has continued to race part-time with the team since then, mostly at Road Courses.
  • In 21 career starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2024 and 2025, Green has two top-five finishes and 8 top tens, scoring his career-best finish of second at the ROVAL this fall. Unfortunately, Green had yet to find a full-time ride despite his popularity as an underdog with the NASCAR fan base.
  • Peterson Racing is most well known for its work in the IMSA Mustang Challenge series, yet this will mark its first full-time effort in NASCAR. In announcing this new team, Peterson Racing also announced a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing.
