What’s Happening?

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will reunite with his former legendary sponsor in part-time Late Model Stock Car races beginning later this year. This follows months of speculation on the future of his iconic No. 8.

• This announcement follows a long evening of speculation after Earnhardt and his former Crew Chief, Tony Eury Jr., changed their profile photos to pictures from the Budweiser days.
• Budweiser sponsored Earnhart from 1999-2007 when Earnhardt raced for Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s Dale Earnhardt Incorporated. However, upon his departure, the sponsor and Earnhardt parted ways, with Earnhardt signing with Hendrick Motorsports.
• Dale Jr. retired in 2017. However, he continued to race throughout the years, initially in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He returned to Late Model Racing in recent years as part owner of the CARS Tour and his own Late Model team.
• Since late May, fans have wondered what would happen with Dale Jr.’s iconic stylized No. 8. The United States Patent and Trademark Office records showed that once Teresa Earnhardt allowed the number’s trademark to lapse, Earnhardt Jr. purchased the rights.
• The reborn “Bud 8” will debut in the South Carolina 400 at Florence Motor Speedway on Nov. 23 and will be live on FloRacing. However, there will be several races for it in the future.

In a press release from JR Motorsports, Earnhart said:

“It is an incredible opportunity for me to be able to reunite with Budweiser, and the No. 8. Budweiser and I had some great memories with that iconic scheme and number. We’ve always supported each other over the years. It’s going to be really special for me to be able to represent that brand on the racetrack again.” — Dale Earnhardt Jr.
