When NASCAR fans argue with Formula One fans on Twitter, there was one thing that NASCAR fans could always hang their hat on, NASCAR always got more viewership in America than Formula One. Well this week after one of the best NASCAR races of all time Formula One has finally beat NASCAR. Before we let F1 fans celebrate there are a few reasons why this happened and Brake Hard is here to explain all of them.

  • F1 is known for having their quick pre-races, They have an extended pre-race on their subscription services but on the broadcast, they usually run 5 to 10 minutes, so this carries over a lot of viewers from the previous program. Should NASCAR start doing quicker pre-races?
  • One possible theory on why Formula One beat out NASCAR this week is network versus cable television. F1 was on ABC while NASCAR was on FS1. Why do you think more NASCAR races are not on big TV networks?
  • What did you watch during the rain delay this week? The 3 1/2 hour rain delay, created the perfect window for a lot of NASCAR fans to tune into the Formula One race watch the entirety of that race, and have enough time to tune back to NASCAR for the green flag. Do you think that the rain delay was the reason why F1 beat NASCAR?

Should NASCAR and F1 have overlapping TV windows to ensure that this doesn’t happen? Do ratings matter to you or are you just happy that motorsports is growing? Leave all your thoughts and questions for Brake Hard in the comment section.
