What’s Happening?

“Throwback Weekend” means one thing for NASCAR collectors: new diecasts. There are plenty of Darlington Throwback paint scheme diecasts already available, and we will keep track of all of them.

  • This article will focus on every 2024 throwback diecast available on either Lionel or Circle B. Only throwback schemes will be considered, not the original schemes.
  • Throwback Weekend makes for some fun paint schemes, and, in turn, some great diecasts. While not every scheme may be available in diecast form, the best and most popular are certain to be available.
  • Fans love collecting diecasts, and these throwback schemes make for especially great collectibles. They are usually one-time throwbacks, which gives them significant rarity.

Cup Series: Ross Chastain Busch Light Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date 12/31/24)

Ross Chastain and Trackhouse will put together a vintage logo Busch Light scheme at Darlingon. While not throwing back to a specific driver, it does throw back to an old Busch Beer logo.

Cup Series: Austin Dillon No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 11/30/24)

Austin Dillon will race a special gold paint scheme as a throwback. It’s unclear what exact era this throwback is for, but, it is reminiscent of many black and gold cars of the 1960s.

Cup Series: Kyle Larson No. 5 Terry Labonte Kellogg’s Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date 10/31/24)

Kyle Larson will throw it back to Terry Labonte’s No. 5 car from the 1990s. Labonte won the 1996 Cup Series Championship in the scheme, one of 4 consecutive Driver’s Championships for Hendrick Motorsports.

Cup Series: Brad Keselowski No. 6 Castrol Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 12/31/24)

Brad Keselowski will sport a Castrol GTX throwback paint scheme. This one throws it back to a Castrol-sponsored car in the Japan Grand Touring Car Championship in 1995.

Cup Series: Corey LaJoie Razzle Dazzle Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 12/31/24)

Corey LaJoie is throwing it back to his Regional Touring Series days with this paint scheme. He won in this scheme at Bowman Gray Stadium in 2012.

Cup Series: Chase Elliott No. 9 Dale Earnhardt Jr. National Guard Throwback

Chase Elliott/Dale Jr. Combo

Chase Elliott will throw it back to Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s 2014 National Guard paint scheme. Dale Jr. won 4 races in 2014 including his second Daytona 500, his only career win at Martinsville, and sweeping the season at Pocono.

Cup Series: Harrison Burton No. 21 Leonard Wood Special Throwback

The Wood Brothers throws it back to their infancy. This car was 1939 Ford Modified that raced in 1953, the first year of the race team.

Cup Series: William Byron Jeff Gordon Axalta Throwback

William Byron will once again pay tribute to Jeff Gordon with this throwback scheme. This one honors Gordon’s early 2010s scheme.

Cup Series: Todd Gilliland No. 38 Generator CARS Tour Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 12/31/24)

Todd Gilliland takes the grass roots racing theme to heart with this throwback paint scheme. This one honors the first ever CARS Tour race in 2015, which Gilliland took home the checkered flag.

Cup Series: Ryan Preece United Rentals Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 12/31/24)

Ryan Preece throws it back to his days in the Modifieds at Darlington. This scheme is based on his 2013 Modified Championship-winning car.

Cup Series: Alex Bowman No. 48 Jimmie Johnson Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 12/31/24)

Alex Bowman throws it back to the first iconic No. 48 car for the Darlington race. This scheme looks at Johnson’s first seasons between 2002 and 2005, before he won his 7 Cup Series Championships.

Xfinity Series: Cole Custer HAAS Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date 12/31/24)

Cole Custer is paying tribute to his old crew chief, Jonathan Toney. Toney was an engineer on the No. 00 Xfinity Series team with Johnny Sauter as the driver.

Xfinity Series: Justin Allgaier BRANDT Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date 12/31/24)

BRANDT will run a paint scheme based on their original fertilizer truck. This dates back to 1949.

Xfinity Series: Sammy Smith No. 8 Harold Arnett/Mike Brooks Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 11/30/24)

Sammy Smith and JRM decided to go to the dirt track ranks for this throwback. This one honors TMC’s first race team partnership with Mike Brooks.

Xfinity Series: Brandon Jones No. 9 Dale Jr. Throwback

Availability: Pre-Oder (Estimated Ship Date: 11/30/24)

Brandon Jones throws it back to Dale Earnhardt Jr. from Richmond in 2018. This was Earnhardt Jr.’s return to the drivers seat after retiring from full-time competition after the 2017 season.

Xfinity Series: Carson Kvapil Clarience Technologies

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date 12/31/24)

Carson Kvapil adds Clarience Technologies as a sponsor for 2024. Kvapil will run this scheme in 6 races starting this weekend at Darlington.

Xfinity Series: Josh Bilicki Circle B Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 12/31/24)

Josh Bilicki is throwing it back to Justin Allgaier at Darlington. This scheme is from Allgaier’s Cup Series stint in 2014.

Xfinity Series: Shane Van Gisbergen Quad Lock Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 12/31/24)

Shane Van Gisbergen is throwing it back to fellow Australian racing legend, Marcos Ambrose. Ambrose raced this yellow and black scheme in the Cup Series in the early 2010s, winning 2 races at Watkins Glen.

Xfinity Series: Riley Herbst Terrible Herbst Throwback

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 12/31/24)

Riley Herbst will honor his dad, Jerry Herbst, with this paint scheme. Jerry spent his racing career in off-road racing.

Truck Series: Ross Chastain Buckle Up South Carolina

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: 12/31/24)

Ross Chastain joins Niece Motorsports for 5 races in the Truck Series in 2024. He will be sponsored by Buckle Up South Carolina at Darlington.

Truck Series: Thad Moffitt No. 46 Richard Petty 75th Anniversary

Availability: Pre-Order (Estimated Ship Date: December 2024)

With the Petty family celebrating their 75th anniversary, Richard Petty’s grandson, Thad Moffitt, will run a special throwback scheme at Darlington. This one throws it back to Bobby Hamilton’s STP 25th anniversary scheme from 1996.
