UPDATE: SVG WILL Race in the ARCA Menards Series at Daytona
After previously failing to qualify for the ARCA Menards Series Race at Daytona, SVG will race after all. The No. 7 car withdrew from the race, opening up SVG to start 34th in the 40-car field. The race will be tonight at 10:30 ET on FS2 before moving to FS1 after college basketball.
With the No. 7 car withdrawing from tonight’s ARCA race, @shanevg97 qualifying lap will now put him in the field, starting 34th.
SVG had previously failed to qualify for the 40-car ARCA field at Daytona. It is unclear whether or not Pinnacle Racing Group bought out the #7 entry or not.
While it would not have affected his eligibility for the Xfinity Series race, SVG needs all of the oval and superspeedway practice he can get. This is his first full-time season in NASCAR, and it’s his first time ever racing at Daytona.
Fans were absolutely shocked when SVG originally failed to qualify, so, there is some relief over him being able to race after all. However, if there was a buyout, not everyone loves the look of buying another car out of the field.

What’s Happening?
Australian Supercars star Shane Van Gisbergen failed to qualify for the Daytona ARCA 200 at Daytona International Speedway. While it should not affect his Xfinity Series status, fans were absolutely shocked to see this happen. Speculation even began swirling that SVG and Pinnacle Racing Group could buy out a backmarker team so SVG could still race.
SVG burst onto the NASCAR scene in 2023 by winning the Chicago Street Race in his first career Cup Series start. Rumors quickly swirled that he would be coming stateside to race, and he signed a development deal with Trackhouse. He will race a full season in the Xfinity Series alongside a part-time Cup Series schedule.
Bigger teams buying out back-of-the-pack entries after failing to qualify is not unprecedented in NASCAR. Most recently, in 2020, Ross Chastain failed to qualify for Kaulig Racing at Daytona in the Xfinity Series, so, they bought out Jeff Green’s RSS Racing ride.
Fans are shocked to see SVG fail to qualify, and many are wondering where he goes from here. Could he end up buying himself into another ride?
