The 2024 schedule has had rumors and speculation abound. However, some rumors may possibly be in the “Too good to be true” category. Which NASCAR schedule rumors are most likely not to be true at this point? This is not to say they won’t happen, but rather how unlikely they are to happen.
International Expansion
NASCAR has teased that the 2024 schedule will be an “aggressive” one, and one of the most aggressive rumors is NASCAR going international. In the wake of Garage 56, NASCAR was reportedly in talks with international venues in the Middle East. However, Adam Stern admitted in that report that NASCAR was looking more at the 2025, 2026, and 2027 schedule.
However, Canada has been rumored to be added to the 2024 schedule, but, Bob Pockrass recently reported that is still TBD. The schedule has yet to be released, and Canada is definitely the biggest logistical headache on the schedule for a multitude of reasons. As a result, Canada is one of the most likely things to not happen because it will take a lot to make it happen.
Auto Club Speedway Getting a California Replacement
Auto Club Speedway’s replacement is still to be determined according to Bob Pockrass. However, the only somewhat realistic potential option within the Los Angeles metro area, the LA Coliseum, is not becoming a points race. As a result, the most likely replacement for Auto Club in that part of the schedule is maybe Sonoma.
However, Sonoma’s date still remains open in June in that scenario, and if Canada does not work out, then Sonoma may have a hard time finding a replacement. Regardless of which scenario, it does not look like Auto Club Speedway will get a true one-for-one replacement in California that does not take a race date away from California. It is entirely possible that California may be down a race next year, but, one can argue that is not the worst thing in the world as the Clash at the Coliseum is still there.
Chicago Street Race Getting Axed
The odds of this happening squarely seem to be 50/50. On one hand, the bad weather caused most of the havoc for that race weekend, and that is a reason to give the Chicago Street Race another chance. However, the desire from the city for the race to return is mixed at best.
Truthfully, it is uncertain whether or not the race will return, but it seems that NASCAR pretty clearly wants to return. As a result, it seems that the race has at least a fighting chance of returning despite what people may try to claim or what we even theorize.
The 2024 NASCAR schedule is still waiting to be released, and maybe some things people hope for will not be on there. What other things on the 2024 schedule are too good to be true?
