What’s Happening?

This weekend, NASCAR heads to Talladega Superspeedway, one of the biggest and baddest race tracks in the world. However, the saying goes that “April showers bring May flowers”. Will that saying showcase itself at Talladega this weekend?

  • Talladega is a 2.66-mile, 33-degree banked superspeedway located in Central Alabama. The track was built by NASCAR founder Bill France in 1969, intended to be bigger and faster than Daytona. Talladega is now one of the most popular tracks on the schedule thanks to the big, sprawling packs and close finishes.
  • Mother Nature has not been kind to Talladega at times. Since 2014, 3 races have been impacted by weather, but, two of those happened in the fall. The long springtime race to be impacted by weather was in 2020 when the race was postponed due to rain.
  • Fans are excited for Talladega this weekend. It’s a track that has endeared itself to a majority of NASCAR fans, and it always produces an exciting show.

Talladega Weather History

The one spring race to be impacted by weather came in 2020. Due to the pandemic, the race was scheduled for June, but, rain pushed it back a day. This was the same weekend as the Bubba Wallace “Noose” incident. Ryan Blaney went on to win the rescheduled race.

The race most hampered by weather at Talladega came in 2021. The fall race was postponed a day due to rain, and the Monday race was shortened due to more rain. Bubba Wallace took home his first career win.
