What’s Happening?

With the evolution of social media, the fight to earn the coveted fan vote for the NASCAR All-Star Race has seen some creative campaigning. No one has grabbed this by the horns quite like Carson Hocevar, whose quirky sense of humor has played into a 3 part saga to garner fan votes for the All-Star Race

  • Carson Hocevar is currently in his rookie season with Spire Motorsports in the No. 77 car. He has impressed in his limited Cup Series seat time, and he’s endeared himself to fans thanks to his personality on social media.
  • The All-Star Fan Vote allows fans to vote for one not already qualified driver into the NASCAR All-Star Race. Eligible recent past winners include Noah Gragson, Erik Jones, and Alex Bowman. Kasey Kahne won the race after entering via the fan vote in 2008.
  • Fans love to see what Hocevar is doing. Is it enough to get him the fan vote into the All-Star Race?

Part 1: Napoleon Dynamite

It all started the day that the fan vote was released, when Carson Hocevar used a joke from the cult classic 2004 comedy flick, Napoleon Dynamite. Instead of “Vote for Pedro”, it was “Vote for Pedro Carson” on his shirt. Obviously, quite cool, but, it also went up against some stiff competition.

Justin Haley got the campaigning kicked off thanks to this video published by Rick Ware racing. Haley promised to take on the NASCAR establishment, complete with a totally not fase explosion on pit road at Bristol Motor Speedway.

However, Hocevar wasn’t done.

Part 2: Deceiving an Intern AND a Teammate

Carson Hocevar decided to continue his campaign, with the same, quirky sense of humor. This time, he elicited the help of unpaid Spire intern, Jack, in lieu of high-profile friends who refused to show up.

The script appeared to be written for his Spire Motorsports teammate, fellow fan vote hopeful, Corey LaJoie. Regardless, Hocevar took it and ran with it, continuing to promote his candidacy for the All-Star Race fan vote.

Part 3: Tricking His Own Rivals!

Hocevar took the battle a step further as April drew to a close. He elicited the help of fellow drivers on Cameo, including 2 fan vote hopefuls, by posing as a high school student in a tight voting race.

Kaz Grala, Austin Dillon, and Anthony Alfredo each announced their support for the Carson Hocevar campaign. The video was so well done, that it garnered the attention of multiple members of the industry.

One of which was fan vote hopeful Chase Briscoe, who could do nothing but applaud like Leonardo DiCaprio.

Anthony Alfredo told his side of the story, and it seems he knew what was happening.

Even the official IMSA account joined in on the fun.

Gold indeed Parker Kligerman, gold indeed.

Mamba Smith tips his cap to Hocevar.

Carson Hocevar’s campaign has been quite creative to this point. The question is, will it continue this way?
