What’s Happening?

Last Friday, Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport signed RSS Racing’s Blaine Perkins to drive their No. 31 car next season. This signing leaves an opening late in the 2024 NASCAR Silly Season, so what are RSS Racings’ options for the No. 29 in 2025?

Anthony Alfredo

Anthony Alfredo left 2024 with more questions than answers. After piecing together a solid season with OUR Motorsports, the team moved on from Alfredo and signed Kris Wright to take over in 2025.

Alfredo is a veteran driver in the series and should land on his feet following this split-up. However, whether or not that might be the case with RSS is unknown. RSS has a history of winning with veterans with Aric Almoria, and Alfredo would bring a young, experienced driver to the team.

Kaz Grala

Kaz Grala’s part-time NASCAR Cup Series ride with Rick Ware Racing will not return to the same capacity next season. In 2025, RWR will lease this Charter to RFK Racing for their No. 60 car. While the team might enter a second car part-time in 2025, Kaz will be on the market for the 2025 season.

Kaz might be a more interesting option for RSS if they choose a veteran driver next season. Grala has a decent record of racing in the series and compares favorably to Alfredo. Notably, there is a rumor that Grala is headed for Spire Motorsports’ truck program next year.

While a veteran could be a smart change for the team, what if they went with a young yet experienced driver who needs a fresh start?

Parker Retzlaff

Parker Retzlaff is one of NASCAR’s most interesting free agents. After a tough year with Jordan Anderson Racing, Retzlaff and JAR mutually parted ways, and the team ultimately went with Perkins to take his spot.

If RSS were to “trade” drivers, it would create an interesting storyline heading into 2025 about an underdog team and a driver gunning for glory. Retzlaff even has a history with the team, making his debut with RSS in 2022. However, our sources suggest that Parker Retzlaff may have an opportunity at Alpha Prime Racing.

Armani Williams

The team could go with another young driver like Armani Williams. Williams made his Xfinity Series debut last season and continues to make his case for full-time NASCAR competition in the future through part-time starts.

Williams, who has a history of Ford in the Xfinity Series, could be an outside-the-box call for RSS next season. Unfortunately, Williams may need more time at NASCAR’s lower levels before taking such a leap in competition.

However, there is room for the team to have another outside-the-box option with this empty seat.

Part-Time Entry for Ford Drivers

Ford had very few team field teams in the Xfinity Series last season and utilized the breakup of Hailee Deegan and AM Racing to get their Cup Series drivers part-time starts in the series last season.

AM Racing signed Harrison Burton to drive that No. 15 full-time next season, leaving RSS with a chance to do something interesting with the No. 29 next season. This could be for Ford Truck Series talents like Conner Jones and Frankie Muniz or Cup Series regulars like Josh Berry and Joey Logano, who drove the No. 15 last season.
