What’s Happening?

Bayley Currey is a fan-favorite journeyman driver for Niece Motorsports. However, recent driver signings by Niece could push Currey back into the free-agent market again. So is Bayley on the move again, or staying put at Niece?

  • Bayley Currey floated around all three NASCAR National Series from 2017 to 2023. In 2023, JD Motorsports gave Currey his first break in the Xfinity Series.
  • Currey turned his time with JD Motorsports into a full-time ride with a contending Truck Series team, Niece Motorsports. This year at Niece, Currey has just one top-five in 20 starts
  • Niece is already making announcements for its 2025 driver lineup. However, with two drivers already announced, there is still no word on Currey.

What Has Niece Done So Far?

Niece Motorsports is more public than most Truck Series teams in its 2025 preparations. The two-truck team already re-signed Matt Mills, the driver of No. 42, for next year. Furthermore, Kaden Honeycutt, the driver of the team’s part-time No. 45, is going full-time with Niece in 2025.

Notably, Bayley Currey has yet to be announced for a return. Of course, this could be due to poor performance or the contract not being signed yet. As of right now, Niece is a two-truck team, but it has fluctuated from one full-time driver to as many as three in 2022.

While there is room for Currey to stay at Niece if they expand back to three trucks in 2025, what could his outside options be?

What Are His Options?

Currey has a past of floating around part-time entries. Currey showed reasonable success in this approach. Of course, it resulted in him earning this full-time ride with Niece.

During this portion of his career, Currey raced as high as the Cup Series with Rick Ware Racing and as low as trucks with numerous teams. While going as high as the Cup Series is fun, some drivers prefer full-time rides.

If Currey wanted to stay full-time, his most likely option would be in the Craftsman Truck Series. Two teams have notable open rides in the truck series: Rev Racing and McAnally-Hilgemann Racing.

However, Currey’s stats and age limit his ability to earn those rides. All three openings, the No. 2, No. 19, and No. 43, are seeing their young driver move to the next level. Currey, now 27, would be competing with young up-and-comers like ARCA Champion Andres Perez for those rides.

However, a return to Niece might just be in play. As previously stated, the team has fluctuated in size year-to-year, and it wouldn’t be like them to give up on a driver just one year into full-time competition.
