What’s Happening?

A major domino in the 2024 NASCAR Silly Season fell last week when Big Machine Racing’s Parker Kligerman retired from full-time racing. The team subsequently hired Rev Racing’s Nick Sanchez to drive the No. 48 next season. However, that leaves one more major question: who drives the No. 2 truck next season?

A Clear Picture of the Future

Rev Racing describes itself as “the competition arm of NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity Program.” That program is NASCAR’s initiative to help diversify the sport. Notable alums of the program include Kyle Larson, Bubba Wallace, and Daniel Suarez.

Most recently, Rev Racing brought Nick Sanchez through its system via the ARCA Menard Series and Craftsman Truck Series. The Truck program has only had one driver, Nick Sanchez, and with help from Spire Motorsports, the team is in hot contention for the championship this year.

With the departure of the driver, who was the team’s foundation, Rev needs to hunt for a driver. However, unlike most teams, Rev has a clear line between ARCA and the Truck series, with two NASCAR Drive for Diversity Program members as clear candidates.

Rev’s Developmental Talent

Lavar Scott and Andres Perez are Rev Racing’s two ARCA Menard Series drivers.

Perez, a native of Mexico, took over the team’s flagship No. 2 ARCA entry after Snachez ascended to the Truck Series. In two seasons, Perez has 19 top-fives and 31 top-tens.

Despite being the current series points leader, Perez can’t seem to surpass ARCA’s dominating forces of Connor Zilisch and William Sawalich to get his first win.

Neither can teammate Lavar Scott. Scott is a rookie in the ARCA Menard Series and second to Perez in driver standings. Scott has looked amazing in his rookie campaign, leading 100 laps at Elko Speedway before losing to William Sawalich.

Both are prime candidates for the No. 2 next year, but which will get the call?

Perez or Scott?

Perez is the obvious choice for Rev, having amassed a total of five second-place finishes and potentially the 2024 ARCA championship.

However, there is one open ride that might call to Perez as well as the No. 2. Unlike Scott, Perez has made his Truck Series debut. However, it wasn’t with Rev but with the team that fields Rev’s truck, Spire Motorsports.

If there is a situation where Spire Motorsports takes Perez, it could be the best of both worlds, as Scott and Perez look like legitimate talents.

However, Perez is a safe bet, as Scott might need one more year in ARCA.

Whichever driver Rev goes with, they could have a future champion in their hands. However, picking between the two might be just as hard as winning that championship.
