What’s Happening?

Dover Motor Speedway, notoriously known as “The Monster Mile,” is one of the tougher stops on the NASCAR schedule each year, thanks to its high speeds, narrow straightaways, high-banked corners, and concrete surface. Drivers may not have a good time at Dover, but you can bet that the campers do! Based on NASCAR’s official camping notebook, here’s what you can expect when camping at Dover.

  • “The Monster Mile” has been a staple on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule for five decades, with the first race being held there in 1969. Many drivers have conquered the one-mile concrete oval over the years, but none more than 7-time champ Jimmie Johnson, who found victory lane there 11 times in his career.
  • Since 2020, Dover has hosted one Cup Series race per year after hosting two races each season since 1971. The track was purchased by Speedway Motorsports Inc. (SMI) in 2021.
  • Dover is a fan-favorite for campers, with many different amenities to attract NASCAR fans from across the northeast.
