What’s Happening?

NASCAR returns to the East Coast this weekend as all three NASCAR National Series switch from the desert to the beaches of Homestead, Fl. and the Homestead-Miami Speedway. Homestead has a strong history of good weather, but will that stick around this weekend?

  • Homestead-Miami Speedway made its debut in NASCAR with the Xfinity Series in 1995. After that race, the Trucks joined in 1996 and the Cup Series in 1999. The 1.5-mile oval races are unlike any other on the national schedule and are a fan favorite.
  • Despite its popularity, NASCAR has yet to give the track two weekends a season. Typically, the track is a fall race; however, since 2020, it has floated from the spring to fall in 2022 and back to the spring this year.
  • The track made its name as the host of NASCAR’s championship weekend from 2002 to 2019. This was notable, as Florida’s chaotic weather made this race a high-risk weekend for weather despite its good history.

Recent Weather Events at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Despite the risky Florida weather, NASCAR has not had a real weather delay in the history of Homestead-Miami Speedway. The track has managed to have some of the best visuals, however, as the sun sets with the sun reflecting off the hoods of the cars. Of all the ovals in NASCAR, Homestead-Miami Speedway may have one of the best climates for picturesque racing.

However, that does not mean the track is immune from rain. In fact, one of the track’s most important races, the 2011 Ford 400, saw a significant red flag rain delay. This evening turned out to be the track’s most memorable during its time as the finale host, with Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart tying for the NASCAR Cup Series title.

Note: This article will be updated with a more accurate and detailed forecast as the race weekend nears.
