What’s Happening?
Only two NASCAR National Series head to Michigan International Speedway this weekend for an action-packed double-header weekend. Whether you are at the track or home, what does the forecast look like for this weekend in Brooklyn, Michigan?
- Michigan International Speedway opened in 1968, and the NASCAR Cup Series hosted its first race at the now-unique 2.0-mile track in 1969. While the track has a long history with the NASCAR National Series, it is also well known for its open-wheel racing history, as USAC, CART, and INDYCAR have all made major stops at the track in the past.
- From 1969 to 1972 and again from 1974 to 2020, the NASCAR Cup Series hosted two races a year at Michigan International Speedway. The truck series, which has not raced at the track since 2020, and despite having raced there from 2002 to 2020, has never had two dates yearly at the track.

2024 – One Day Later
Last year’s race at Michigan International Speedway had quite the flare for bad weather. Not only was qualifying rained out but the start of the race was also delayed. Then, only 52 laps into the main event, the weather took over once again, with NASCAR opting to push the race till Monday morning.
While Monday’s weather was relatively perfect, heavy tailwinds pushed the field of cars around around. While the rain never returned, many blame these heavy winds for Corey LaJoie’s blowing over after spinning out on the back stretch.
