What’s Happening?
John Hunter Nemechek announced on his YouTube channel exactly where he will be racing in 2024. He will drive the #42 car for Legacy Motor Club full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series.
You Need to Know:
- John Hunter Nemechek has been the subject of many rumors regarding his whereabouts for next season. Jordan Bianchi reported that Nemechek was in line to replace Noah Gragson at Legacy Motor Club before Gragson was granted his request to be released from his contract with the team after his social media controversy. Many also linked him to potentially staying with JGR, except moving up to Cup if either Denny Hamlin or Martin Truex Jr. left, but both drivers are staying with JGR. For virtually any open Cup Series seat for 2024, someone had John Hunter Nemechek going to it.
- Legacy Motor Club has been a team in turmoil for a large part of this season. Noah Gragson had failed to record a single top-10 finish in the 42 car prior to being indefinitely suspended by NASCAR and eventually being granted his request to be released following a social media controversy. Teammate, Erik Jones in the 43, has not been much better, but he has gotten four top-10 finishes in the last 11 races.
- Fans are excited to see Nemechek take this next big step in his career, especially considering what he has had to do to get here. After one Cup Series season in 2020, Nemechek stepped down into Truck for two full seasons before blossoming in Xfinity this year with five wins so far. He made his first Truck Series start in 2013 at Martinsville at the age of 16. Some wished that LMC was performing better, and others wanted other drivers such as Carson Hocevar get the ride. However, the general consensus is that people are happy for Nemechek.
