What’s Happening?

Trackhouse Racing has announced a shakeup to its 2026 lineup, which will see Shane van Gisbergen take on a new number and 2026 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year Connor Zilisch taking over the No. 88.

  • In 2026, Zilisch will drive the No. 88, which van Gisbergen drove to five wins and NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year honors this season. This will give the NASCAR Xfinity Series standout a consistent number, as he drove the No. 88 for JR Motorsports in 2024 and 2025.
  • In turn, van Gisbergen will now drive the No. 97, which fans may recall is the same number he drove during the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season. However, as explained in the emotional announcement video, his and his family’s legacy with the No. 97 dates back much longer.
  • This will mark the first time the No. 97 will be used in the NASCAR Cup Series since Obaika Racing entered the car in four races in 2018. Prior to that, the car last ran full-time in 2005 at Roush Fenway Racing, in Kurt Busch’s final season with the team.
  • While this is a shift in numbers, it means little for the overall teams, as SVG will retain his team’s current staff, such as his crew chief. Zilisch is technically taking over what was once Daniel Suarez’s No. 99 team, though the team is bringing on a new Crew Chief for the coming year in Randall Burnett.
