What’s Happening?
Days after winning the 2025 Indianapolis 500, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou joined NASCAR Legend and FOX Sports Analyst Kevin Harvick on the latest episode of Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour. During this episode, the 28-year-old driver told Harvick he would “love” to give racing in NASCAR a shot.
Alex Palou currently sits atop the INDYCAR world for Chip Ganassi Racing. With five wins through six races, it would take something drastic for him not to walk away with his fourth series championship. To add to this legendary run, this weekend, Palou joined an elite list of drivers to win an open-wheel racing national championship and the Indianapolis 500.
As part of the long list of media appearances Palou must endure after winning the Indianapolis 500, he joined FOX Sports analyst and three-time Brickyard 400 champion Kevin Harvick on this week’s episode of Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.
During this interview, the two discussed various topics, including Palou’s potential interest in making a one-off NASCAR start. When asked by Harvick, Palou responded positively, stating, “Oh, absolutely. I’d be down for that. I mean, it’s a very different car. It’s a very different kind of racing.”
While Palou wouldn’t be the first driver to jump from INDYCAR to NASCAR, a long list of the sport’s legends has history in both. Palou’s interest would lie in racing on a road or street course. “I know I would get smashed by all of you guys on ovals, but I would love to give it a try at a road or a street course,” Palou said.
It’s no secret that Palou, despite his dominance of the series, is not the same dominant force when the series heads to oval tracks. In fact, of his 16 career wins in the NTT INDYCAR Series, Palou has just one win on an oval, doing so this past weekend at Indianapolis.
While their discussion did not go any further into the potential for this pursuit, Palou is likely now at the top of NASCAR fans’ wishlists for INDYCAR drivers who should attempt a NASCAR start. In recent years, fans have pushed for drivers like Josef Newgarden, Scott McLaughlin, and Scott Dixon to at least make one start, to no avail.
But, much like his fellow Indianapolis 500 champions Sam Hornish Jr, Dario Franchitti, and Helio Castroneves, a day will come when the Spaniard hopes behind the wheel of a Stock Car.
