What’s Happening?

In a note from NASCAR Diecast producer Lionel Racing, the brand confirmed that tariffs will affect the price of new NASCAR Diecasts. The company is now assessing a 5% “Tariff Surcharge” on items received after Mar. 7, 2025.

  • A copy of this message was posted on X late Thursday evening. In the message, Linoel Racing stated, “Currently, we are facing a 20% tariff on products we import from China.” Due to this tariff, Lionel states they “are reluctant to implement across-the-board price increases that would place the full burden of these changes on our customers.”
  • The company is placing a 5% “Tariff Surcharge” on all purchases made after Mar. 27, this past Thursday, on items received by Lionel after Mar. 7, 2025. In the words of Lionel, “Any new and existing sales order for product that is received after Mar. 7, 2025, will be assessed a 5% surcharge.”
  • If you go to Lionel Racing’s website, then the checkout screen, the Tariff Surcharge is listed in the summary under Sales Tax. This surcharge increases the price of a single $10.99 1:64-scale Diecast by $0.54, a single $75.00 1:24-scale ARC Diecast by $3.75, and a single $115.00 1:24-scale Elite Diecast by $5.75.
  • Lionel, the exclusive producer of licensed NASCAR diecasts, closed the message by stating, “The Lionel team will continue to review and adjust or remove the surcharge from new orders should the current Tariff change or be lifted.” This is a developing story and will be updated if Lionel announces any further updates.
