What’s Happening?
Fox Sports returning to NASCAR for the next TV deal had been rumored and reported for months now, but, Fox Corp. CEO Lechlan Murdoch became the first Fox executive to officially comment on NASCAR coming back.
She said regarding conversations with NASCAR in an interview with Awful Announcing‘s Daniel Kaplan, “We’re currently in, I think, the final stages of a very constructive negotiation for our NASCAR renewal, we’d look forward to continuing that, that partnership with NASCAR.” She also discussed how NASCAR has “Exceeded” Return on investment expectations as well.
You Need to Know:
- If NASCAR were to renew with Fox for 2025, it would be the 25th year of NASCAR on Fox. Fox holds the title of NASCAR’s longest-standing broadcast partner Since NASCAR’s first flag-to-flag broadcast of the Daytona 500 in 1979.
- Murdoch mentioned how NASCAR gave a significant return on investment to the company, but she could not say the same about other properties like WWE. She also discussed her disappointment surrounding the World Series record-low TV ratings, again, in contrast to NASCAR. This does come despite 12 of the 18 Fox NASCAR events this year seeing a decrease in TV ratings.
- Fans have been very critical of Fox broadcasts in recent years, and some fans were not too happy to see this news. However, this is not necessarily a surprise to fans either.

NASCAR likely returning to Fox is not a major surprise. However, fans likely want to see improved coverage should this happen. NASCAR getting a good return on investment for TV partners is a good sign, though, especially given the current climate with lowered TV ratings.
