What’s Happening?

Richard Childress Racing denied rumors that Chairman and CEO Richard Childress is retiring at the end of the season on Tuesday night.

  • Tuesday afternoon, a user on X posted that Richard Childress, the founder, Chairman, and CEO of Richard Childress Racing, would be retiring at the end of the season.
  • Due to the nature of this post and RCR’s ongoing performance struggles, it quickly gained traction among the fan base. While some expressed excitement about the prospect of overhauls at one of NASCAR’s most storied teams, others questioned whether this was indeed the case.
  • The post even gained enough attention that RCR felt the need to address this rumor, posting in response, “This is not accurate. Richard Childress is not planning to retire following the end of the season.” While it appears there are no major changes for RCR’s front office, the team will see changes in the garage area, with the departure of veteran Crew Chief Randall Burnett.
  • Burnett announced his departure from RCR’s No. 8 car at the end of the season this past week. However, the team decided to part ways with him on Wednesday morning, announcing Andy Street will take over duties for Kyle Busch’s No. 8 team.
