The popular streamer called NASCAR a "Battle Royale," evoking popular video game titles like Fortnite and Apex Legends.

What’s Happening?

The most followed Twitch streamer, Ninja, had a comment to make on NASCAR on Sunday afternoon. He compared NASCAR to something that seemingly no one has compared NASCAR to, a “Battle Royale.” Essentially, NASCAR is the sports version of Fortnite or PUBG: Battlegrounds.

Now, I do not know personally how much NASCAR that Ninja watches. It could be that he watches more NASCAR than we think, or maybe he just came up with it by thinking on his own. Could NASCAR be closer to a “Battle Royale” than we think?

NASCAR the “Battle Royale,” and the Impact of Ninja Commenting on NASCAR

For those unfamiliar, a “Battle Royale” video game is very simple. A bunch of players drop into a map and the last player standing wins. It’s an incredibly simple concept, but it’s also incredibly successful in the video game industry.

NASCAR shares one crucial element with “Battle Royale” video games that other sports do not have, and that is having only one winner. While calling it an outright “Battle Royale” is shortsighted, when compared to other sports, NASCAR is probably the most similar. That being said it’s two completely different entities that aren’t really comparable.

Regardless of that, having Ninja, one of the most popular Twitch streamers out there, commenting on NASCAR is not the worst publicity for NASCAR. Ninja was not bashing NASCAR in any way with his Tweet, but he was commenting on it. It was on his mind for whatever reason, and that is a good thing.

Ninja’s following is primarily in the younger demographic that NASCAR is so desperately looking for. Sure, it’s hard to say that NASCAR gained any “new fans” as a result of this, but at least it got some people to think about or talk about NASCAR that otherwise would not.

NASCAR would probably prefer a more “educated”, for lack of a better word, comment, but at least it got their name out there. It sure was not ideal, but it was something.

In the Stands

This raises the question, does Ninja know what he is getting himself into.

Nathan – Silver Thunder wants to see Ninja on a race car.

Jose Ulfe says that NASCAR is as close to a battle royale as any sport.

That is a good question Razors Edge.

I don’t know if he does watch NASCAR, but he did comment on it. It does potentially put NASCAR in front of more people.

Has NASCAR been Fortnite all along?

This was not on our bingo card for the Richmond race weekend, but it is interesting. Little did we know that Ninja of all people would comment on a NASCAR race. Could we see him at the track soon?
