A majority of those familiar with the matter support the return, but a larger majority of residents still haven't heard of the issue.

What’s Happening?

While local politicians and corporate suits are unsure about the Nashville Fairgrounds, a Bristol Motor Speedway funded poll shows that 67% of Davidson County residents support the most recent proposal according to The Tennessean’s Cassandra Stephenson.

The poll also reports that 69% of local neighborhood residents support racing at the speedway while only 18% want to eliminate it. Importantly however, Stephenson also reports that 71% of county voters had not heard of the proposal.

  • While the future of the Nashville Fairgrounds has been painted as an uncertain one by the recent political movements, this poll shows residential support for the track. Restore Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway also reports that 80% of residents are in favor of an absorption wall around the track to reduce noise.
  • The Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway has been a popular NASCAR track that fans have asked to revive in recent years. The race track still has some political hurdles to overcome, however, in order for these renovations to be improved.

In the Stands

Scott McNew is still skeptical.

The Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway could have a place in the future of NASCAR. This most recent poll definitely shows that there is local support behind it. Once there is local support, then political support should theoretically become easier.
