Many times, NASCAR fans hope their driver’s last career win features a dominant performance in their last race allowing them to ride off into the sunset. Sometimes, that happens, but, more often, driver’s final wins come in rather unorthodox ways. Many times, fans had no inkling it would be a driver’s final trip tp victory lane. Well, here is a look at the craziest last career wins in NASCAR history.

  • 2003 Ford 400: Former Champions Bill Elliott and Bobby Labonte were battling for the win in the final laps at Homestead-Miami Speedway, until a flat tire wrecked one driver’s last career win bid and gave another driver their last career win.
  • 2015 Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500: Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s final career win came in the most random way possible, a rain-shortened race. A timely caution put Earnhardt Jr. in the lead when the rain came, and the race was shortened.
  • 2000 Winston 500: Dale Earnhardt’s final career win came in the most Earnhardt way possible. In the difficult-to-pass Gen-4 plate package era, he made one of the greatest comebacks in NASCAR history to win his 76th and final race.
  • 2016 Toyota Savemart 350: Tony Stewart struggled late in his career, but he had one last gasp in 2016 at Sonoma. Stewart was known for how well he races on road courses, and he had to battle Denny Hamlin for his final career win.
  • 2004 Nashville 300: The only Xfinity Series race on this list, Michael Waltrip got his final Xfinity Series win thanks to all four drivers in front of him crashing out. Proof that anything can happen.
  • 2017 Brickyard 400: Kasey Kahne’s career at Hendrick Motorsports was a bit of a disappointment to some, but he went out with a bang. A wreck fest race featuring a driver going 3-wide while blowing up and late race restarts ended with Kahne in victory lane.
  • 1984 Firecracker 400: While Richard Petty’s final few seasons were a struggle, his final career win made that worthwhile. He went for his 200th win against Cale Yarborough with President Ronald Reagan in attendance. A fitting final win for a king.

Those were some crazy last-career wins. Which one was the craziest to you and which ones did we miss? Comment on the video to let us know, and make sure to subscribe for more NASCAR content.
