What’s Happening?
This weekend, all three NASCAR National Series head to Watkins Glen International for the final road course race of the 2025 NASCAR regular season. Whether you are at the track or home, what does the forecast look like for this weekend in Watkins Glen, NY?
- Prior to the 2018 introduction of the Charlotte Roval, the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the subsequent 2021 schedule revamp, Watkins Glen International and Sonoma Raceway served as the lone road courses on the NASCAR Schedule. Despite the changing landscape of the sport, the 2.45-mile road course remains a staple of the circuit.
- Though the Cup Series has raced at the Glen since 1957, the Xfinity Series debuted there in 1991, left after 2001, and returned in 2005. The Truck Series first raced there in 1996, left after 2000, and returned for a one-off in 2021. No NASCAR National Series races were held there in 2020.
- The Glen has a spotty weather history throughout the race weekend, with qualifying and practice sessions canceled in the late 2000s and early 2010s. However, minus a few events, the track rarely has weather issues on race day.

2022
The 2022 Go Bowling at the Glen saw NASCAR break through the windshield whippers and wet weather tires for the first time in the Next Gen era. With wet conditions, NASCAR even went as far as opting for a single-file start, with Chase Elliott leading the field to green.
Elliott would lead 29 laps that afternoon, as part of a dominant effort from two of Hendrick Motorsports’ four entries. While Elliott led the majority of laps, Kyle Larson would lead a measly five laps en route to his second race of the season, and 12th win at Hendrick Motorsports.
