What’s Happening?

NASCAR Cup Series Managing Director Brad Moran confirmed that officials will meet with drivers Kyle Busch and John Hunter Nemechek following the driver’s short scuffle on the penultimate lap of Sunday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway.

This past weekend, the moment on the minds of NASCAR fans leaving Texas Motor Speedway was the on-track battle between Kyle Busch and John Hunter Nemechek on the race’s final two laps.

When NASCAR’s Penalty Report came out on Tuesday, Busch was nowhere to be found, and instead, a somewhat overlooked wreck involving Ryan Preece and Ty Gibbs became the focus of the week.

While Busch, whom most see as the aggressor in the battle, was not penalized for his door slamming of the No. 42, the fallout is still ongoing, with the two yet to take to the track together, and one NASCAR executive claiming that NASCAR officials will sit down with Busch.

That executive was NASCAR Managing Director for Racing Communications, Mike Forde, on NASCAR’s Hauler Talk podcast.

Nonetheless, another member of NASCAR leadership is saying that Busch won’t be the only one spoken to. Wednesday, NASCAR Cup Series Managing Director Brad Moran told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that Nemechek will also chat with NASCAR officials.

What Will These Meetings Entail?

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Nemechek is in any trouble. Moran says that the reason for these meetings will be to ensure that nothing else comes of the situation and ensure that both parties have their heads on straight.

“We’ll also talk to John Hunter and just make sure. . . when we get anything that’s a little controversial, we just check on the drivers and make sure they’re in a good place, so we don’t have something become bigger that we do have to get in the middle of.” — Brad Moran

Still, it seems there are questions that will be asked of Busch, as on Hauler Talk, Forde mentioned that NASCAR officials gave Busch the benefit of the doubt.

Given his recent trend of run-ins that include Nemechek and Riley, Herbst, Forde warned that the benefit of the doubt is running out, specifically saying, “let’s not have to be having this conversation as often as we are, because the benefit of the doubt is running out pretty quickly.”
