What’s Happening?

NASCAR has penalized Ryan Preece for a questionable run-in that ended Ty Gibbs afternoon during this past weekend’s race at Texas Motor Speedway.

  • During Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, Ty Gibbs went hard into the outside in the early portions of stage two. In the replay, RFK Racing’s Ryan Preece was behind Gibbs, though he maintained that he did not wreck the No. 54.
  • Monday, on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Preece admitted he could have given Gibbs that room, but clarified, “I didn’t feel like I hit him.” Still, NASCAR fined Preece $50,000 and 25 points for this run-in, despite Preece maintaining his innocence.
  • As a result, Preece falls one spot to 13th in the standings, 18 points behind Christopher Bell. While this penalty was a surprise, of equal surprise to fans was the news that Kyle Busch was not fined for his door-slamming of John Hunter Nemechek.
  • Also featured on this week’s penalty report was a fine and suspension to Truck Series Crew Chief Dylan Cappello. Cappello, who calls the shots for Layne Riggs team, will miss this weekend’s race after officials found two loose lug nuts on the No. 34 truck after the race at Texas.
