What’s Happening?

The Daily Downforce is saddened to report that after a crash sustained during Saturday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Matt Mills was rushed to a local hospital in the larger Miami area. We understand that his condition is stable but he will be kept overnight for observation. The incident occurred after Connor Jones (No. 66) aggressively tagged Mills from behind. This sent Mills’ truck hard into the outside SAFER barrier and his battered Chevy Silverado came to a slow rest in the infield.

  • The incident in question occurred on Lap-75. The number 66 truck of Jones aggressively tagged Mills from behind, sending him into the wall for a brutal hit.
  • Following the incident, Mills was escorted to a local medical facility, where he would remain overnight for observation. Connor Jones was held for a two-lap penalty as NASCAR cited aggressive driving. We will update Mills’ condition when that information becomes available.
  • Our thoughts are with Matt Mills, his family, and Niece Motorsports. We wish him a full recovery.
Update:

Just after 4:30 PM, Niece Motorsports took to X to update us on Matt Mills’ condition. They announced that he is being treated for smoke inhalation, and the doctors are monitoring his oxygen levels. The team also stated that he would remain in the hospital for another night.

The Main Character

2024 marked the first year that Matt Mills attempted a full season in any of NASCAR’s top-touring series. He signed with Niece Motorsports towards the end of 2024 and has had a couple of decent runs in the ride. Most notably, his best run came at Charlotte earlier this year where he achieved a 4th-place finish. Matt and his family and team seem to be in good spirits following this incident. You can watch the incident in full in the video clip below, provided by FOX Sports.

Around The Garage

Connor Jones (the other truck involved in the incident) released a statement of his own. Following the crash on Lap-75, Jones was held 2-laps by NASCAR for aggressive driving. Following the race, Jones and ThorSport took to X (formerly Twitter) to release the following statement.

That does it for us on this end, Daily Downforce reader. From all of us here at DDF, we wish Matt Mills a full recovery and hope to have an update on his condition soon. Please be sure to tune back in here for all the latest stories in the world of NASCAR!
