Fans Are Split On NASCAR’s New Romcom

What’s Happening?

NASCAR is working on a romcom. According to Deadline.com, Victoria Mahoney is set to direct a NASCAR-based romantic comedy, and fans are not sure how to feel about it. MGM Studios is working alongside NASCAR and various other studios according to Deadline.

  • NASCAR has been trying to expand its’ content into new areas in recent years. They released their own Netflix documentary, NASCAR: Full Speed, prior to the 2024 season. NASCAR also opened a new content facility, NASCAR Studios, during the offseason.
  • This is not the only NASCAR-based comedy media developed. Talladega Nights is perhaps the most famous movie example, and Kevin James made a NASCAR series on Netflix called, “The Crew”.
  • Fans are not too split with this news. Many fans on social media are not excited about a NASCAR rom-com, but, others like how this project could reach a new audience.

In the Stands

Chris Phineas is not thrilled.

Gage Anderson was looking for a different kind of NASCAR movie.

DNF Racers wishes NASCAR would try a different type of movie instead of a straight comedy.

While the project is intended to reach a new audience, NASCAR fans do not seem all pleased with this move. Was this a good move by NASCAR?
