What’s Happening?

NASCAR Cup Series driver Carson Hocevar went viral for seemingly joking about his recent $50,000 fine from NASCAR by setting $50,000 donation goal during a recent live stream.

  • Hocevar is one of the most active NASCAR Cup Series drivers online, with over 15,000 subscribers on YouTube and 23,000 followers on Twitch. This donation goal joins a long list of things he has done on his live streams that have gone viral in the NASCAR community, such as leaking returns to NASCAR tracks like Rockingham and Chicagoland.
  • NASCAR hit Hocevar with a $50,000 behavioral infraction on Wednesday morning, with a report from NASCAR.com claiming that Hocevar “revved and spun his tires” while NASCAR officials attempted to hook up his car following a spin that flattened all four tires on the No. 77 during Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway.
  • There has been some debate about when this happened, with fans primarily focusing on Hocevar’s in-car footage. However, in a new video from NASCAR, it appears this happened after Hocevar drove to turns three and four, when the safety crew began hooking up his car.
  • While the financial fine was substantial, it is standard in this scenario, and, most importantly, Hocevar and the No. 77 team were not penalized in terms of driver or owner points. This is also the second consecutive year Hocevar has been fined $50,000, having received a similar fine last summer following an incident at Nashville Superspeedway.
