What’s Happening?

On Thursday, John Dagyn of Sportscar365 reported that NASCAR drivers Bubba Wallace, John Hunter Nemechek, and Corey Heim would race in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race the weekend of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The trio will team up with Smooge Racing in the 23-car for the event.

  • This will be all three driver’s first foray into IMSA Sports car racing. The race will take place the last weekend of January as a preliminary to the Rolex 24 at Daytona for the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Series.
  • The Michelin Pilot Challenge is a sort-of feeder series for the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Series. It often races in conjunction with the big series, and the first race weekend of the year, featuring the 24 Hours of Daytona, is one of the biggest race weekends of the motorsports year. It marks the start of the racing season for many fans.
  • Fans are gradually learning of this news. Many fans are excited, but, others are wondering why these drivers are not racing in the 24 Hour race held on Saturday into Sunday.
