What’s Happening?
With the upcoming MLB Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway right around the corner, BMS shared a rather shocking update on preparations for the event, including the destruction of the track’s Goodyear building.

In the post, Bristol shared that they were in the middle of a “teardown” of the building, which sits in the infield just inside turns one and two. This teardown came as a shock to fans, as in the past, when Bristol has done events such as the Speedway Classic, they have not had to destroy buildings.
Despite this shock, this change was relatively unnoticed in the renders for the Speedway classic, which has the outfield sitting at an angle within the first two turns. The Goodyear building, as it was, sat outside right-center field and, according to the renders from last fall, the Atlanta Braves’ temporary clubhouse.
Even DannyBTalks was shocked to learn that buildings were being removed from the 0.533-mile short tracks’ already cramped infield.

For the most part, fans in the comments responded negatively to this destruction, with most expressing that it was a shame to destroy this historic building at a historic track.
However, the BMS admin was smart with their words, as they clarified on X that the track is tearing down the building and will rebuild the Goodyear Building at the conclusion of the Aug. 2 game.
A closer review of the renders also suggests that Bristol will remove large portions, if not all, of the inside retaining wall and the inside wall on both strips of pit road. However, this has yet to be confirmed as plans could have changed since the Aug. 9, 2024 announcement.
When the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves face off on Aug. 2, the Speedway Classic will be the first MLB Game to take place inside an active NASCAR Cup Series track.
