Andretti Global President Teases Expansion Into NASCAR

Andretti Global to NASCAR rumors are heating up again, this time from a top executive at the iconic racing team. Andretti Global President JF Thormann talked about the team’s future ambitions in a video posted to the team’s YouTube channel. In it, he confirmed that Andretti is still working to get into NASCAR along with Formula One.

We’re the only ones that compete in the amount of series that we do, and then the ambition that [Michael Andretti] still has. We still have to close the loop, obviously, with Formula 1. That’s well documented, and hopefully NASCAR. And then, we’re going to have a race virtually every weekend.

• Andretti to NASCAR rumors are nothing new. Jenna Fryer reported in March that Andretti Global was working on potentially joining NASCAR, likely through a partnership with an existing race team. Andretti already has a close connection to one existing NASCAR race team.
• Spire Motorsports and Andretti Global share a major sponsor, Gainbridge, who joined Spire in 2023. Marco Andretti made three NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts for Spire in 2023, with a best qualifying effort of seventh at Mid-Ohio and a best finish of 18th at Homestead.
• Overall, the Andretti family has fewer connections to NASCAR than other motorsports, but they have made their mark. Most notably, Mario Andretti, a two-time defending IndyCar Champion at the time, took home the 1967 Daytona 500 over teammate Fred Lorenzen. Two years later, Andretti won the Indianapolis 500, becoming the first to win both the Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500 before A.J. Foyt later repeated the feat.
