Rumors and News

August 2025: NASCAR Cup Series Schedule Released

On Aug. 19, Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic released the first look at the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series schedule, featuring the additions of North Wilkesboro and Chicagoland Speedway back to the points-paying calendar, the new All-Star race location at Dover Motor Speedway, and the removal of Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

August 2025: Iowa Out of the Picture for 2026?

According to Kelly Crandall of RACER, Iowa Speedway, despite its back-to-back sellout race weekends, is facing “uncertainty” about its spot on the NASCAR 2026 Schedule.

August 2025: Last Second Swap Could See North Wilkesboro and Dover Swap Dates

According to an Aug. 14 report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, NASCAR is considering a “last-minute change in direction” that would give North Wilkesboro Speedway the points race date currently held by Dover Motor Speedway, while Dover hosts the NASCAR All-Star race.

July 2025: Mexico Off 2026 Schedule

According to a Jul. 30 report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, NASCAR will not return to Mexico City in 2026. However, as there are fewer scheduling conflicts in 2027, the sport could opt to return. In exchange for Mexico City, NASCAR is likely to add Chicagoland to the 2026 schedule.

July 2025: San Diego Street Race Confirmed

NASCAR confirmed the addition of a street race at Naval Base Coronado, a base near San Diego, Cal, on Jul. 23. Unlike Chicago’s Street Race, San Diego’s race weekend will be held during Father’s Day weekend, which is not the same weekend as 2025’s Father’s Day race weekend, which was held at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez from Jun. 13-15.

In comparison, this calendar weekend, Jun. 19-21, 2026, was held at Pocono in 2025, and, in 2026, much like Pocono in 2025, San Diego will be the final race on Prime Video. There is no word on what will happen with Pocono’s race weekend, though NASCAR will likely return.

July 2025: Chicago Street Race Will Not Return in 2026

According to NASCAR, the Chicago Street Circuit will not return in 2026, with the sport looking to find a new date for the race to return as soon as 2027.

July 2025: NASCAR’s Interest in Chicagoland Continues to Grow

According to a Jul. 17 report from Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal, NASCAR is looking into a return to Chicagoland Speedway in 2026 and “The chances of the move happening are said to be increasing.”

July 2025: Bowman Gray Will Host the 2026 Clash

The Clash will return to Bowman Gray Stadium in 2026.

June 2025: NASCAR and Bowman Gray Agree on Mult-Year Deal

NASCAR and Bowman Gray are extending their current deal, which will see NASCAR bring at least one of its three National Series races to the track once a year over the next five seasons.

June 2025: NASCAR Has Interest in Racing in Philadelphia

In a recent interview, NASCAR President Steve O’Donnell claimed that the spot has not only thought about racing in Philadelphia but has looked into it.

June 2025: NASCAR Close to Deal With San Diego for 2026 Season

According to Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, NASCAR’s street race could shift to Southern California for the 2026 season, as officials are close to finalizing a race deal in San Diego.

June 2025: More Talk of Canada

NASCAR Executive Ben Kennedy confirmed that NASCAR is having discussions with multiple venues in Canada to host a NASCAR event. No year or date has been confirmed.

May 2025: More 2026 Chicago Uncertainty

During a meeting with residents of Chicago’s South Loop, Chicago Street Circuit President Julie Giese did not have an exact answer to a question about the race’s continuation past the 2025 season.

May 2025: Kennedy says Clash will “Likely” Be in the US

In a press conference, Ben Kennedy, NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Venue and Racing Innovations Officer, said that the Clash will “more than likely” happen in the United States in 2026.

Apr. 2025: Homestead-Miami Speedway to Host NASCAR’s 2026 Championship Weekend

According to Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, Homestead-Miami Speedway will host NASCAR’s 2026 Championship weekend. This will be part of the new rotating Championship model often hinted at by NASCAR.

Update: May 6: NASCAR has confirmed this change. Phoenix will also step back to the Round of Eight, though that race weekend is unknown.

Apr. 2025: No Chicago in 2026?

According to Jordan Bianchi of the Athletic, a 2026 edition of the Chicago Street Race is looking increasingly unlikely. Though a decision has yet to be made, there is growing sentiment in the NASCAR garage area that “it may be time to conclude the partnership.”

Mar. 2025: Montreal in Play for 2025

During Las Vegas Race weekend, a report from a French-Canadian newspaper, Le Journal de Québec, made waves in the NASCAR Community. This report claims that Montréal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is in negotiations with NASCAR for a return in 2026 and 2027. Should the deal pan out, it implies the Craftsman Truck and Xfinity Series will race at the 2.71-mile circuit in 2026, followed by a NASCAR Cup Series date in 2027.

Feb. 2025: No 2026 COTA Deal Yet

According to Jordan Bianchi of the Athletic, despite all parties interested in returning NASCAR to COTA in 2026, there is still no deal for the track to be on the 2026 NASCAR schedule. However, most expect the track to be on the 2026 calendar.

Feb. 2025: New International Race for 2026?

Following rumors that the preseason Clash could move to Brazil in 2026, Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal reported in February that NASCAR is expected to return the clash to Bowman Gray Stadium. In exchange, NASCAR could hold a preseason exhibition race in a foreign country to help mitigate costs.

Feb. 2025: O’Donnell: Rotating Championship Venues “Is Going to Be Really Important” for NASCAR

In a Feb. 12 debut episode of NASCAR’s Hauler Talk Podcast, NASCAR COO Steve O’Donnell, among other comments, stated, “a rotation is what the fans want.” He also stated that oval tracks, not superspeedways, would be ideal for this setup. These remarks are in line with those made by O’Donnell and Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal in December 2024.

Feb 2025: Brazil Still Interested in 2026 Clash

Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal suggested during the 2025 Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium that the race could still move to Brazil in 2026. There are rumors, however, from those who purchased BGS tickets that the contract is three years.

Dec 2024: NASCAR Exploring Several Tracks For Season Finale

According to Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal, NASCAR COO Steve O’Donnell says the sport is open to rotating championship weekend locations in the future. While this is not the first mention of changing spots, it is the first reference to a non-permanent host track for the race.

Nov. 2024: NASCAR Exploring Several Tracks For Season Finale

During NASCAR’s State of the Sport Press Conference, NASCAR officials listed off several options to host the season finale following 2026. These tracks were Charlotte, Darlington, Homestead, and Las Vegas. All of these tracks are intermediate tracks, something fans have asked for.

From 2024: San Diego Replacing Chicago in 2026?

As part of NASCAR’s search for the next street race, Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal reported in August that the sport could turn to San Diego for 2026. San Diego would fill the Southern California void in the NASCAR schedule. However, there has been little word about this schedule change since the initial report.

From 2024: Brazil Wants NASCAR in 2026

Following an August meeting with NASCAR officials, rumors circulated that Brazil is interested in hosting the Clash in 2026. However, rumor is that Bowman Gray Stadium, the new host of the Clash, has a three-year contract to host the event.

From 2024: Homestead Wants Finale Back

This rumor will circle throughout 2025. Homestead-Miami Speedway, the original host of the NASCAR season finale, wants the finale back. While NASCAR may return to Phoenix, expect to hear this throughout the season.

The Biggest Losers from the NASCAR Race Weekend at COTA

What’s Happening?

After two wildcards to kick off the 2026 season, NASCAR headed to Circuit of the Americas (COTA) for round 3 on the year. The big headline heading into this weekend was whether or not Tyler Reddick could become the first driver in NASCAR history to win three straight races to start a campaign. Three times before, drivers have won the first two races of the year. Now Reddick, fresh off the heels of a Daytona 500 win and a win at Atlanta makes history as the only driver to go three for three.

The No. 45 23XI team is certainly on a roll with a 70-point points lead. However, not everyone had a weekend to remember. Here are the biggest losers of the 2026 NASCAR race weekend at COTA.

Corey Day

Another race weekend, another controversial race for Hendrick Motorsports’ Corey Day. And it is, yet again, a tangle with a JR Motorsports car that lands him on this list. Late into Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at COTA, Corey Day got into his Hendrick teammate, Connor Zilisch, who was driving the No. 1 car for the team, causing Zilisch to spin out. Up to that point, Zilisch had already overcome a lot of adversity. Heading into one of the tight corners of COTA, Day clipped Zilisch, sending him around and effectively ending his contention for the race win.

After the incident, Connor Zilisch came over the radio and called Day a “total hack” and then, after the race, told reporters that he expects and deserves an apology. Day was a good sport about it all, owning up to his mistakes. But it’s just another week of Day barreling through his competitors that makes this a weekend he’d likely rather forget. To his credit, though, despite the issues, he still managed a top 5 finish. So, at least there’s that.

Connor Zilisch

Unfortunately, Connor Zilisch makes the list. There was a lot of buzz around Connor Zilisch heading into the weekend, considering his dominance on road courses last year in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. I think that many fans viewed Saturday’s race as a cakewalk for the young phenom, while others thought that the odds were in his favor to capture his first win on Sunday. Unfortunately for him, none of that came to fruition. While Saturday’s race looked like another SVG/Connor Zilisch thriller in the making, mechanical issues put the driver of the No. 1 car behind the 8-ball. Not to mention a late race incident with Corey Day and Saturday could be considered the win that could have been for Zilisch.

Sunday wasn’t much better. He did manage to keep his nose clean, so there was that. But he was more or less a non-factor most of the race. He started in the back and was able to work his way up and contend for a top 10 finish in the closing laps. Unfortunately, all he could manage was a 14th-place finish.

Shane van Gisbergen

Undeniably, the odds-on favorite going into today’s race had to be the one, the only, the NASCAR King of the Road himself, Shane van Gisbergen. Despite win-and-you’re-in being a thing of the past, many fan still expect SVG to make the 16-driver Chase for the Cup later this year based on sheer wins at road course races alone. His first opportunity came early with COTA being the third race of the season. Unfortunately, despite winning handily in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race on Saturday, he wasn’t able to get the job done on Sunday. He was in prime position to win his seventh career cup win but, unfortunately, the stars didn’t align. He was forced to settle for a runner-up finish.

The Entire Cup Series Field (besides Tyler Reddick)

The story going into this weekend’s race at COTA was will Tyler Reddick be able to do the impossible and become the first driver in history to win the first three races of the season. It was a tall order, for sure, but the fact that he scored the pole on Saturday must have put a pep in his step. Early on, he was far from the fastest. As the race wore on, though, he got better and better, ultimately able to outduel the King of the Road, SVG on his own turf.

Because of Reddick’s dominant performance, the last loser on our list this week is the rest of the NASCAR Cup Series field. They just did not rise to the occasion, and Tyler Reddick managed to capitalize to make history. Now, they just need to go to Phoenix next week and prevent him from going four in a row. At this rate, though, Reddick might actually embarrass the field once again.
